Liverpool Secure Record-Breaking Kit Deal

Liverpool Secure Record-Breaking Kit Deal

Posted on 22. Apr, 2011 by in News

Liverpool are believed to have secured the biggest kit deal in the history of the Premier League after signing an agreement with Warrior – a sports manufacturer who are best known for plying their trade within the sport of lacrosse.

The deal is believed to be in the region of an astounding £25 million a year, which would eclipse Manchester United’s current deal with Nike which is worth £23.3 Million.

The deal with Warrior Sports, whose agreement with Liverpool will be their first venture in to the footballing world, is believed to begin at the start of the 2012/13 season whereby a long-term contract has been signed.

With Liverpool facing a tough battle to qualify for next years European competitions, an added revenue for the club should be welcomed with open arms as it is another sign of FSG helping to generate as much money for the club as possible.

The Reds are believed to be the fourth biggest shirt-sellers in football behind Real Madrid, Manchester United and Barcelona, with an estimated 900,000 replica shirts sold per annum – meaning that Warrior Sports can be promised a sound investment into the football club.

Despite the news coming as a blow to Adidas, it can’t be seen as too much as a shock. This is because the company “New Balance” – which Warrior Sports is a subsidiary of –  have recently signed a deal with the Boston Red Sox who are also under the control of our American owners.

i think the adidas kits have looked so much better than the rbk kits so its a shame to loose that i understand that 25m a year is a great deal financially and it could fund a big name signing every season if need be im just worried about how the kit will look and will it sell…

I think we can be assured they wont deviate from the norm when it comes to the kit. being its first foray into football, they would do well to keep it simple. all red strip at home, all black on the road, and perhaps bring back the green 3rd kit. i happened to like that one very much

The money is good but Warrior is a tiny little company with no market visability or distribution. They are smaller than Errea, Kappa, Canterbury. They haven’t ever made a piece of football equipment or a single jersey in their short history.

Warrior will be bust in a year.

Like T said, Warrior are a tiny little company.

If Warrior pull it off,(i mean don’t go bust) that is 25m, a year to LFC.

Terrible news. The Adidas logo is classic and I’d rather have nice uniforms than a few extra million laying around. Warrior Sports?? Who is that??

I recently read another article that states the deal is worth 45mil – which would shatter the record, I agree that the number sounds absurd – I recognize that. Perhaps they got their £ and $ mixed… good chance really

Warrior Sports owns a company called Brine who actually do make soccer equiptment. Sub-Standard comparded to Adidas but they make the equiptment nonetheless.

I prefer Adidas and for a small increase the deal is not worth it, however for 45… they could play in anything, as long as it didnt have a red devil on it, mind you.

Sounds like a superb commercial deal @ 25 million a year but looking at their site I am not very impressed by the existing Warrior kits:

    http://www.shopwarrior.com/Team-USA-Replica-Jersey-WLTM212WT

I will be buying next seasons black/silver away strip as I love the existing adidas kits. Hopefully Warrior will pull out a strip worthy of The Reds.

If it means more money to spend on the squad then I am all for it.

you cant say anything by looking at a jersey that was meant for a different sport cuz lacrosse players are bulkier and have that shoulder guard……. football jerseys are completely different+25 mill…..just cuz they are new to the market doesnt mean they will be substandard…give them a chance and then talk……as long as they cum up wid something decent im all for it.

Who cares about who makes the kit? rbk’s was terrible, hurt my face pulling the fecker off. Give us your money warrior and the team will happily play in coal bags with a slap of red dulux all-weather on them. Might not look good alongside all the other nice jerseys in jjb tho…

FSG are willing to finance many potential moves for players, so we Pool fans are led to believe anyway. Why is there the need to change a true classic kit in Adidas, for an unknown kit maker? Warrior? What the hell? Forgive me for this, but the reason i dont like England kits is because they are made by Umbro lol. LFC kit made by Warrior? Take a day off Warrior mate, we really dont want you to make our shirts

I agree completely. Adidas and Nike make the best uniforms. Anything else is just lower class

The adidas logo is a picture of the pyramids. The standard chartered logo is a compass and set square vertically. I bet next year when we score all the players will do funny handshakes, turn into reptiles and eat a baby on the halfway line.

@t – Warrior sports is actually a sub-company of the running equipment giant New Balance. I don’t think money is going to be a problem. Also, although they do not have football kit experience, they are well known in the US for manufacturing Lacrosse and Ice-Hockey kits (two big sports in the US). I think as long as the design is reasonable, the extra money will help us out in the transfer window!!

warrior? never heard of it. well it is good news that the company will help the club in solving all of its financial woes. But i’m just worried how will they look like. they never had any experience in football. Or soccer (they’re Americans). and judging from the look of their website, i’m not impressed at all.

Pretty sure if they’re investing 25m they will get the right people on side to design the kit! Good commercial deal and makes us a little unique. May also assist in marketing towards untouched markets.

This is their first foray into football and they’ll want to make an impression. What I like about them is that they haven’t outsourced all their factories to China and the Far East. They’re made in the US and the UK – they’ll get the right people on board for this, for 25 million, they won’t screw up. It’s another Boston company – maybe they should consider twinning Liverpool and Boston?

Havin mixed feelings about this. Yes, it does mean that Liverpool will be generating more revenue in shirt sales, which in turn leads to fundings for the proposed stadium plans as well as new talents coming in. However, adidas are more than just a leading sports brand that supplies our kits. adidas represents a symbol of our successful era back in the 80s & 90s. The way I see it, I feel as if we’re selling out just so we can earn more revenue. But I dont blame FSG — in today’s world the only way to compete with the millions of the likes of Chel$ki & Man$ity is to follow in their footsteps. It’s quite sad really, but then again, football is turning more into a business nowadays, so…. Yeah…..

For 25 million I’d let topman make the jerseys. Great bit of business. I for one am not worried about how they will look, I’m sure they will look just fine. Either way I’m gona buy it :)

Warriors splashes their 25 m to LFC, LFC makes Warrior popular brand worldwide. Good deal. And let’s hope that kit brings us some good luck to. Adidas is very nice, world known and all that, but a good luck wasn’t there exactly.
Also, sometimes our away kit looked almost like the one of Chelsea.
Anyway, it’s only happening in a year, so this coming season we stay with Adidas.

It’s normal to be sceptical about Warrior Sports because we don’t know them but at the end of the day it’s all about the money. The 25mill are practically like a Luis Suarez every season. I just hope the kits don’t look rubbish though.

Given the exposure football teams have they’ve failed to ever capitalize on it in a massive way. Look at the Lakers, the Yankees..people that don’t care about the sport wear these clothes.

Hopefully this is a step in this direction, making us an even bigger global brand. Adidas produce the same kits for everybody, we need to be a little unique!

The league s current deal with Versus is for 77.5M per year while NBC has a revenue-sharing deal that does not involve a rights fee. Many execs inside the NHL favored ESPN believing a deal with the network would guarantee more coverage on popular shows like SportsCenter. But NBC and Versus determined that the package was too important for Versus to lose.

Having played lacrosse for quite some time, I can say that Warrior makes a quality product. I’m sure they’ll do their market research and at least come very close to adidas’ quality and look.
