Liverpool Plan January Mario Gomez Swoop
Posted on 06. Sep, 2010 by Dominic Campbell in News
Despite the transfer window being closed for only a matter of days, Liverpool are already looking ahead at a January swoop for Mario Gomez. The German International was top of Roy Hodgson’s wish list to fill the striking vacancy, but a deal for the 25-year-old fell through on deadline day.
It was originally believed that the two clubs failed to see eye-to-eye due to Gomez’ high wage demands. However, recent reports indicate that Bayern Munich blocked the deal as they still believe the player has a future at the club.
Despite falling down the pecking order at his club Bayern boss Luis van Gaal refused to let Gomez leave, especially on loan:
“I have said that if I leave Bayern I will go abroad. Then came this interesting offer from Liverpool.” Gomez told German newspaper Bild.
“I took the loan offer seriously and discussed it with my family and girlfriend because I just want to play. But Bayern gave me the impression that they see a future for me. And therefore a change was not an issue anymore.”
With funds still available from the summer transfer kitty, Roy Hodgson will test Bayern’s resolve with a £16M bid for the player. The January window may be a poor market, but a cash offer will no doubt be more tempting to Bayern than a loan deal with potential to buy.
Kopsource rating: 7/10 – Is it too early to be looking to January?
I have no doubt that Gomez could be a very good asset for the club, but is it too soon to be looking ahead to the January market? Ryan Babel has been told he will be played as a striker and for all we know he could set the the Premiership alight.

We don’t know what’s going on today at Liverpool, never mind January?. We need to sort our ownership issue out first, are the yanks going to walk away with nothing?, no!. We must hope they don’t refinance or we are stuck with them, so we hope the 6th October deadline forces a sale pronto!!!!! Have the RBS really got the balls to take Liverpool off them???????

The right sort of player we need. Strong mobile centre forward in the Shearer mold.

Even if Babel is on fire come Jan 2011, by scoring alot of goals, RH shud be targeting players of the quality of gomez, turan, elia etc etc, from Nov 2010 and shud have deals in place for new signing by the end of Dec 2010, ready for the transfer window inJan 2011. early bird gets the worm ..RH.
RH can not be thinking ie he hopes to finish in the top 4, with torres, babel, ngog as the strike force, with kuyt, jovanic as back-up?.

Liverpool needs a coach who wouldn’t put his head on his hands when we are losing. Supporters get real! What has Hodgson done to suggest we can finish 4th? I just waiting for new owners and a new coach.

For all the quality RH has supposedly brought in, we seem to forget that we have lost quailty too and numbers from a squad that has alot of short comings already. Not signing a half decent striker is unforgiveble in my book.
