Liverpool on Alert as Victor Moses’ Contract Talks Break Down
Posted on 06. Jan, 2012 by Tom Cullimore in Rumours
Liverpool are today being linked with Wigan forward Victor Moses after contract negotiations between his representatives and the Latics broke down. After a slow start to his career following a £2.5 million move from Crystal Palace, Moses has become a key figure for Roberto Martinez’s men in the past 6 months and is reported to feel that Wigan’s present contract offer does not reflect his soaring worth to the team.
Nigerian-born Moses has drawn plenty of praise for his sparkling form this season and looks set to fulfil the potential that warranted his current club’s initial interest. Liverpool, amongst a host of other clubs, had been linked with his signature during his time at Palace, and look set to revive their interest as the club continue their search for a goal-scorer. A bid of £8 million is understood to be enough to bring the youngster to Anfield.
His representative Tony Finnigan had the following to say:
“We talked to Wigan about a contract five weeks ago but still haven’t seen anything,”
“Yes we have had talks, discussions, but there has been nothing in writing.
“He is obviously on the radar of other clubs, he is a young player in the Premier League playing really well.
“He is one of the most exciting young talents in the country, but he is contracted to Wigan and is very happy with life at the club.”

Source Credibility: 30% Player Rating: 65% Player Potential: 70% Likelihood: 45%
Unfortunately, in cases such as this, when the source of the rumour is the agent of the player, it is difficult to know exactly how credible the story is. The near comical example of Paul Scharner’s agent claiming he was close to signing for Liverpool two years ago, in particular, comes to mind.
This said, Moses would seem to fit Liverpool’s transfer criteria; as a young, talented former England Under-21 player, he is certainly in with a chance of appearing on their radar. After a period of borderline anonymity, Moses seems to be rising to the standard of the Premier League, his recent performance against The Reds should serve as a lesson to those who doubted his ability to compete at the top level.
Though an interesting and fast developing prospect, Moses hardly stands out as the reliable finisher the club so desperately craves. In the event of Dirk Kuyt leaving, as has been suggested by some, Moses may find an extra place available on the bench at Anfield, but replacing the Dutchman is far from Dalglish’s top priority.
For now, finding a consistent goal scorer remains the primary objective for this transfer window. Victor Moses, it would seem, is unlikely to meet those requirements at the present time.

Wouldn’t be surprised by us signing Moses – he has always shown huge potential and can improve further. No doubt he would benefit the squad.

Not surprised again we look at players from wigan and sunderland you can see how bad the players are now , we need world class to be at the top

I was a little surprised that he went to Wigan in the first place, thought he would go to a club slightly higher up, but he does definitely have potential. I’m not so sure that we want potential right now though really, would love another attacking player who could already slip into the team and bring something different. I think that without Suarez, and without Suarez scoring goals, we need someone to bring in goals and creativity that the team lacks at the moment. We have money so hopefully we can spend some on someone like Erikson, Shakiri or even giovinco, who are all ready good enough to be in the team and are likely to improve into great players.

The jury is out on Moses, he might be top notch.
But if you want any further evidence of what a poor job Comoli is doing at LFC then just take a look at Newcastle:
Krull – most improved keeper in prem
Colocini – being linked with LFC
Cabaye – quality signing
Tiote – now worth 25m
Ba – everyone wants him now
Enrique – of course joined us, our best signing
Compare that with what comoli has produced at LFC.

id just like to point out valancia came from wigan to united and look at him, fast, great shot as well. i think the people who watch football all ther time and keep upto date on each team seem to have a better opinion on players from all the teams in the prem and it seems the over seas fans not that your not welcome but just go on and on for big money signings that would just make our club bust or the owners think twice about investing in the future…things arent done over night and in 12 months for that fact

He’s not a goal scorer. But he would bee a good addition to the team, add some depth on the wings.

Well said truered. People should be watching football. Any and every signing is always a gamble, you never know when, or how long players, even world class players, will adjust of fit into a new side. Torres was top 5 in the world 2 years ago. And it’s not like he’s old either. I actually wouldnt mind seeing Moses as he has shown ability. Watching him for Wigan this year, even though he hasnt produced, he’s shown he’s explosive and even a couple time quite brilliant. Needs to improve no doubt, but he’s young and gifted. Would a move to LFC bring the best out of him? I would hope so. And we definitly need some flair and pace.

thats it …players play better with good players…if we can get him for 5mil or under id take him we need more pace in the team and he offers this…he is epl established and would fit into our pass and move system as wigan play pass and move to some exstent

i had to agree with what fergy said to day and i think everyone on here should as well….” the players we would like to sign wont be available such is the january window ” ….when people say we should sign cavani, podolski, soldado, lavezzi, damiao to name but a few i think supporters must take into account this is the jan window and not the summer one, also to highlight the 2012 euro’s are this year this will play a huge part in who may or may not move…players will be reluctant to move and risk their place for this compitition. so going for players that might not be one’s cup of tea may be our onlyy option till the summer

The euro this year actually creates a big opportunity, everybody goes on about these big stars who are important to club an country, well they wouldn’t move this january. What we need to look at is players of undoubted ability who are on the fringes of current national sides either because of limited chances at current clubs (Afellay would be great if not injured) or because they play in “lesser leagues” and struggling to get in over more established stars. Those players will be desperate to prove themselves on a grand stage like the premier league to gain or cement a place at the championships.

Apart from pace what we seem to lack is authority in how we play- Stevie G, G Johnson, Saurez & Bellamy only ones who can take game by scruff of neck. I like Moses for his versatility. He doesn’t need to play as an out ‘n out striker but as wide midfield. TBH Junior Hoilett would do for me in Jan!

Think Victor Mosses is very likely to join us. Another player with huge potential but think we need some top class proven player too, other wise we turn into a potentially/Nearly a top team.
If you haven’t already take a look at our latest rumour Jackson Martinez on YouTube , looks one hell of a striker, scores alot of headers, quick, agile & skilful BUT obviously that only YouTube!!!
Can only think of Rodellago of Wigan for another Colombian in Prem. To compare adjusting to Prem wise an he’s a top top buy/player for them.
Got excited watching Martinez clips, he’s top quality but maybe just another rumour.

Sparko agreed he sounds interesting think as he plays in Mexico it’d be more appropriate comparing him now to Javier Hernandez before he joined United and he had 26 goals in 64 Mexican league matches this guy already has 21 in only 43 Mexican League games which certainly looks promising, who knows could be good player and would therefore be a great bargain.

dont get too excited by martinez guys. i for one am actually worried that this particular rumour is gaining more speed everyday. lfc dont have the best record of spotting dimonds in the rough.just because hernandez worked out at man u doesn’t mean this guy will be a great signing for us. and what has he done to be rated an 8.5 million pound striker? youtube compiliations say nothing conclusive about a player.the fact that he was scouted by wigan but decided he was not worth their time or money shows that he’s nothing special. especially considering our poor eye for talent (letting players like ronaldo go after scouting him, signing some young players who are hailed as the next big thing and they turn out to be crap) we should stick to proven quality players.

warlord, i agree with ur post, ie comolli, i think he needs to be removed from our great club, he can not scout a player with out looking up his opta stats 1st on ps3.
KD shud be in charge of scouting, signing players, end of.
moses, if he can be signed for 5/6m, i say sign him, wud add that added pace into the squad,
if moses is going to be signed, to start in the starting 11 now, o hell no, hoilett, jarvis, drenthe etc etc wud be a better signings.
has KD got the so called funds to sign quality players this month, that will cost 10m+, ie shaqiri..9/11m, de rossi(high wages, fee 5m), torres 25m,
certain fans on this site can do a better scouting job than that useless T I T comolli
