Liverpool Hire Brendan Rodgers as Manager on 3 Year Deal

Liverpool Football club have today made clear their intention to Brendan Rodgers as manager after he held talks with FSG earlier today before agreeing a 3-year deal.

Rodgers was reported to have rebuffed initial interest from the Reds, but they came calling again with an offer that the Swansea boss could not refuse.

His former club, who have confirmed the departure, will receive £4m-£5m in compensation as part of the deal that takes their beloved boss to Anfield, while Roberto Martinez has committed his future to Wigan after missing out on the Liverpool job.

Elsewhere, Louis van Gaal and Pep Segura are also believed to be key cogs in the Reds’ revolution.

    Good move

  2. Anonymous says:

He sits, he signs, he’s ours! Welcome to Liverpool!

  3. Harry J says:

Reds revolution! Exactly what is needed. Wish him luck, I don’t think he is big enough to take on the traditional Manager’s role but this new structure will work perfectly (hopefully)

  4. Sam says:

Fingers crossed that Sigurdsson backs out of the Swans move and LFC sign him. 6.8m? We can afford that.

  5. Fidel says:

He have more personality than Martinez, Rogers looks crazy, i like him!

  6. Mustapha says:

Welcome to the family and wish you all the best Rodgers.

  7. imoff says:

Welcome to LFC BR ,I hope the fans give him full support and not demand for his head if he fails to take us to 4th place next season coz LFC has to start all over again and now we can starting talking of good signings hopefully. First signingl i would love to see is Oscar Cardozo in the LFC red jersey .

  8. Mark says:

There’s nothing on the official LFC site about this.

    • Will says:

There’s nothing on the official site yet, but it has been announced on BBC and I think that’s good enough for everyone really.
There have been mentions with the announcement wanting to coincide with the new kit unveiling on the 1st June in a few days, so they may be waiting for that…

  9. siew3k says:

The BBC is reporting it but it is not official. The only way this can work is if Van Gaal is DoF. How else are we supposed to attract the players from across the continent with Rogers at the helm. I do think he is a good manager….but for Liverpool? He is a better option than Martinez though.

    • Will says:

Yeah I think that Van Gaal would be a good addition to get some respect for the club’s management generally especially abroad. Rodgers has respect in England, but most foreign players wouldn’t have heard of him.
Not quite sure how it will work with Van Gaal being a very strong character, and you feel if Rodger and him disagree on something I’m not sure what would happen really, don’t think Van Gaal appears to be the kind of guy that likes being messed around…
I think Rodgers is a very good manager, yes he is a little unproven with only the one real managerial success on his CV, but that was a pretty outstanding success to get Swansea to perform that well. He’s been given the chance lets hope it works out well for everyone.

  10. softie says:

    Awaiting official announcement

  11. Gorilla monsoon says:

    He wont last 18 months.

  12. live4liverpool says:

he is Outstanding just make the rite signings and he will let them shine

  13. ryan says:

Really like this signing. Love the style of football Swansea played this year and hope it can be replicated at LFC. Its amazing how well Rodgers was able to get his players to perform.

On a separate note, I’m not sure LVG is the right choice for the DOF position. In my opinion you need someone who doesn’t have any interest in being a manager. You don’t want to take the chance that we get off to a slow start under Rodgers for some reason and then have the media, fans, etc. clamoring for LVG to take over.

It will be interesting to see how differences in opinion between the DOF and manager get resolved. Both have to be very committed to the overall good of the team for it to succeed.

  14. Astalavista says:

    WTF!!!!!

  15. anfield rd dreamer says:

    Hey we just signed you
    And this is crazy
    But you’re our boss now
    Mates of LVG!

  16. An Capail says:

At long last. Now we can put to bed the negativity which has surrounded our beloved club for the past fortnight. The time is now for all true Liverpool fans to get behind Brendan Rodgers and our players. I have a feeling that FSG will attempt to further show their intentions by providing funds for a couple of major signings to show that they are committed to the Liverpool project. These along with Rodgers and a DOF of high caliber will put Liverpool back top where we belong. But maybe the most important ingredient to our future success will come from us the fans, patience. YNWA

  17. Truered says:

Very happy with this. Hope he keeps Steve Clark I have no doubt he will as they worked together at Chelsea with big stars so not an issue, style of football he likes to play is just what we need. He is media friendly, he was a fan fav and hoping he will be that at lfc. Good luck rogers…he will get 30-40 million to get us the top four or higher

  18. Hubfan says:

Happy to see this, if it proves true. Swansea played excellent style of football last season. If he could get those players doing it so well, why not here? Would love to see Afellay and/or Elia signed, and maybe Luis could put in a word with Cavani.

  19. Truered says:

Im sure rogers will now be looking at what he wants and will be looking at where needs more quality! The question is who will his first 11 be?

  20. rotchie the red says:

sky sports anouncement at 18:46 …rogers said to his chairman at swansea that he would like the job but hasnt been offered it as yet……….

  21. John says:

We have Rodgers…now we just need Hammerstein for an authentic YNWA.

  22. topscout says:

    welcome BR.

i think his first couple of signing will be players from swansea ie sinclair, dyer, allen.

theses players he no’s and he trusts them.

can BR attract top top quality players…we r about to find out soon???

  23. rotchie the red says:

ha ha …nice one John…I wonder how many people will get that joke?

  24. hyperbeat says:

Maybe it is just a smoke screen before FSG announce Steve Keen as the new manager!!!! Just joking – Welcome to LFC

  25. Truered says:

Location of Sam Charles….. The bush out side Brendan’s house ‘stalker’.

  26. Gazcop9 says:

what a joke he was only riding the wave Martinez built at Swansea i give him until christmas. Those looking forward to signing Sigurdson and co is that really what we are looking forward to now. The best we can hope is we sign young talent and sell them on winning nothing. If i was happy with that i would look to Arsenal. Kenny won something we wont do that for a while. Absolutly amazed what player is going to want to sign for us the building Kenny started is finished we are now officially a mid table feeder club like Villa p**sed right off.

  27. didier moracchini says:

Good luck brendan come on reds

  28. Emma Uka says:

Welcome to the reds family sir.

  29. TLCsKOP says:

Totally disagree with you Gacop9- if you call our worsts seasonal performance in 53 years “building”, I’d hate to imagine what you would deem to be demolition. KD (love him as I do) totally wrecked the confidence of regular team playeras like Maxi and Kuyt qith his mindless tactics and selection. I believe that all true LFC fans should wake up and smell the coffee, we are not longer a top 4 team and don’t even habve the divine right or squad to claim a tiop 6 spot. I guess Gazcop thinks wining the Carling cup ais success, well Birmingham won it last year, fat lot of good that did them. Rally tround BR andlets start building again, this time not blinded by sentiments for old heroes

  30. Stevo Conevo says:

Finally! Now splash the cash!!! Regardless of all the scenerios, in all reality, we need to spend spend spend, and bring in new players, quality and top shelf players. $PEND the money! And they will come. Please Lord above, grant us 4th place! I’ll be extremely happy with just that. Nothing else matters

  31. hoxtygen says:

hello edgars!!! you home??happy now??any faith in fsg now??…….

  32. topscout says:

BR needs to start targeting quality players that will fit into his way of playing and if the players he wants are going to cost 5m, 10m,15m, 20m, 30m, each so fcuking be it.

chavs are spending money on top top quality players and their new signings will make a instant impact… no bedding in period, like downing, adam, hendo…bllx

let the transfer rumours begin ..now that LFC have a new manager in place.

  33. Barista279 says:

We need to give the lad a bit of time & please we can’t expect to see miracles in 4 Or 5 months , his young and fool of passion for the game, welcome and best wish for him “”"”"”" YNWA & Glory 2 Lfc “”"”

  34. "Coach Coach" says:

Fok that nonsense. Spend the money if you want and instant impact, simple as that. Money talks, the rest is smoke up the arse

  35. Me says:

I don’t get why people seem to think we can go out and attract TOP players. No champions league folks, it ain’t gonna happen. Bargain basement for us I’m afraid. I’ll support BR but I’m a very worried fan!!!

  36. Mahesh Banjo says:

since every1 believes liverpool and rogers can’t do anything this is all i can say, Don’t be fancy, just get dancy
    Why so serious?
So raise your glass if you are wrong
In all the right ways, all my underdogs
We will never be, never be anything but loud
And nitty gritty, dirty little freaks
Won’t you come on and come on and
    Raise your glass!
Just come on and come on and
    Raise your glass
go out there and prove these fuckers wrong, come on boys bring the cup home.

  37. anfield rd dreamer says:

Yep spending big money. It’s a guarantee of success. We want huge signings of top class quality like Carroll, Keane, torres, Schevchenko, Forlan, Veron, come on you know its true big money obviously equals instant success no cheap deals like Van Der Vaart, Ba, Chicarito, Bellamy, Adam Johnson and the likes, I mean when was the last time a cheap player made a huge impact from day one? I mean expensive signings ALWAYS fit into clubs straight away! That was sarcasm by the way but hope I’ve proved a point. The cost of a deal does not determine how smart a deal was. There are some fantastic players out there that could be brilliant and some expensive ones we should steer clear of.

  38. DJR says:

    I agree with ME…
do i think BR will be successful at liverpool (not having high expectation) he wont get the 120m spree KD had. Unless we sell adam, henderson and carroll (to get some of the money we spent for them last yr) its a tight ship the owners will have.

I wish for them to spend big, but every footballer out there knows of what position Liverpool are in. champions league is what every 1 wants. Once being back in Europe then players will come, but with other team chasing big name players it wont make it any easier for BR to manage an OK squad. i pray for a top 4 finish
