Liverpool kick-off their Champions League group stage campaign against Sevilla on Wednesday hoping to make their mark amongst Europe’s finest teams this season.
The Reds are returning to the continent’s top club competition after a three-year absence, but they face a stiff test against a team who have started well in La Liga.
Sevilla are unbeaten in their first three league games, while Jurgen Klopp’s side have won just two out of four in the Premier League.
Both sides reached the group stages after successfully negotiating the play-off round. Liverpool defeated German side Hoffenheim, while Sevilla edged past Turkey’s Istanbul Basaksehir.
Bookmakers believe home advantage will give Liverpool the edge against the Spanish side, and it’s worth checking out all the latest enhanced odds offers ahead of the game.
The two teams have met just once before, with Sevilla running out 3-1 winners in the 2016 Europa League final. A repeat of that scoreline can be backed at 33/1, although Liverpool will undoubtedly be keen to exact their revenge.
The five-time European champions are aiming to reach the Champions League knock-out rounds for the first time since 2008/09 and are as short as 6/5 to reach the last eight of the competition.
Liverpool haven’t lost at home in their last ten European home matches, since a 3-0 defeat against Real Madrid back in 2014.
Klopp’s side have won five and drawn six of their 16 meetings with La Liga teams at Anfield, so the 3/1 on offer for a draw could be worth an interest.
Sevilla qualified for the round of 16 in last season’s competition, where they were knocked out 3-2 on aggregate by Leicester City.
The La Liga side have never won in five previous visits to England and they will look to keep things tight on Wednesday. Odds of 16/1 for the visitors to win 1-0 if Liverpool’s forwards fail to fire looks tempting.
Despite being sent off against Manchester City over the weekend, Sadio Mane will be available to play in the Champions League and can be backed at 9/2 to score the first goal.
Philippe Coutinho could also return to the squad and is on offer at 5/2 to score anytime during the game.
Wissam Ben Yedder is the man in form for Sevilla, having scored three goals in his last four games, and he is 7/1 to grab the opener on Wednesday.
Sevilla are likely to adopt a defensive strategy at Anfield, so the 29/20 available for 2.5 goals or under could pay dividends.
Liverpool will fancy their chances of progressing from Group E, with Spartak Moscow and Maribor completing the four-team line-up. The Reds are 5/1 to exit the tournament at the group stage, but they should at least progress to the last 16.
