Liverpool Consider Loic Remy Bid

Liverpool Consider Loic Remy Bid

Posted on 13. Jan, 2012 by in Rumours

Loic Remy is the latest player to be linked with a move to Anfield this January after reports suggested that Liverpool are considering a bid for the 25-year-old. Liverpool, among other clubs, were previously linked with the striker over past transfer windows, and now the Reds are once again said to be looking at Frenchman as they hope to bolster their attack.

The French international, who signed for Marseille for a reported fee of €15m, has been the club’s stand out performer and will not be short of options should he wish to leave; a scenario that looks increasingly likely given Marseille’s current plight.

Remy’s agent, Frederic Guerra, confirmed back in 2010 that Liverpool were interested in the player.

“Yes, Liverpool are interested in Loic and Loic is interested in Liverpool,” Guerra is quoted as saying.

While Remy himself had nothing but praise for the club.

“Liverpool is a legendary club. I am very excited by the thought of playing there. It has a magnificent stadium and a fantastic public.”

Kopsource rating: 58% – (Kopsource ratings explained)

Source credibility: 35% Player rating: 70% Player Potential: 75% Value for money: 65% Likelihood: 45%

A move for Loic Remy wouldn’t be the most tragic transfer to happen in recent years, and the price wouldn’t be entirely huge. It would most likely cost the club around £15m to sign the Frenchman as Marseille are unlikely to sell him for a loss so soon after signing him. For the price, though, you would have to buy into the hype surround the player’s potential.

A tale of caution should acompany any player hailed as the next big thing, especially those who come with the dreaded ‘Next Henry’ tag. Djibril Cisse was hailed as the next Henry, as was Ryan Babel, and both fell short of their potential.  Currently the only thing Remy has in common with Henry is his nationailty.

It would be a risky signing, but I for one wouldn’t be disappointed to see him sign on the dotted line…

    13. Jan, 2012

this is all we hear !! lfc might do this a nd lfc might do that?

dear me anyone would think we are top of the league the way the club are handling the market in jan???

we all knew and as does every club that the window comes around each year at this time, we knew that suarez was out and that gerrard has only just played a couple of games, are you really telling me that we think this club has enough quality- er no way – sorry but its clear and most die hard reds would agree!

what are we waiting for, its either get into the top now – this year or wait again and then see what reina and suarez will do!

get on with fsg, get on with it the whole club,,, disgusting that we have not thought about adding qulaity and quicker then we have done in this window.

you have downing who has done nothing, carroll is at best dreadful, you have us missing lucus, and suarez, why have we not had more ambition to add or replace those or get in 1 or 2 players with pace and quality??

mark my words no investment this jan and we can say good bye to the champions league and that’s club….

Not for me, hasn’t exactly tore up trees in France sure he is ok but for me we should only be signing either an established top class striker ready to walk into starting 11 (Bent, Huntelaar, Barrios someone like that) or a promising prolific wonder kid (Castaignos, Van Wolfswinkel, Kleber or somebody). For me Remy isn’t good enough to stand ahead of Bellamy, Kuyt an Carroll as Suarez partner and at 25 he isn’t a wonderkid not sure he is quite prolific either, 1 in 2 in French league hmmmm.

    • Julien S

      13. Jan, 2012

Funny how you were so much more enthusiastic for Jelavic, who is 26 and done nothing better than Remy in a league weaker than Remy’s one.

        13. Jan, 2012

I was going to say the same thing…..Ligue 1 IS much better than the SPL, and it’s a very defensive league. They don’t score a lot of goals. 1 in 2 is a good rate, and he has experience playing in the UCL and for the French national team.

I also love the comments about his price tag and having to buy the hype….the same hype that all these clowns are trying to sell us about Carroll.

  5. anfield rd dreamer

    13. Jan, 2012

Fair point Julien, Jelavic has a slightly better record for goals an assists though, probably personal I just prefer players that have come from Scotland than France in the clubs past we’ve had some great players from up north but those from France have usually let us down!

    • Sam

      13. Jan, 2012

Who was the last prolific player to come from the SPL to the EPL and do well? Give me that answer and then compare it to the numerous fantastic players that have come from France over the last decade.

  6. anfield rd dreamer

    13. Jan, 2012

Sam was just talking as a Liverpool fan, we have never been burnt by signing from Scotland but we went through a period signing from French league and got stung every time. Just a personal preference of mine that’s all.

most french black players in there national team and in that league are’nt even french they just come from their colonies and have the right to play for france some how! evra is a prime example, The French national football for years has been using players predominatly from its former African colonies. Is there a true Frenchmen left in France that can still play football?

    • Sam

      13. Jan, 2012

Well Remy was born in France…..so even though he’s black he is *gasp* French.

      Be more ignorant please.

        16. Jan, 2012

there’s nothing racist about that comment, its a fair comment. france have doing that kind of thing for years and now germany are doing the same with the amount of young turkish players they have, he may have given a bad example using Remy… but the general point is a valid one, if not put over correctly

  8. sam charles - not 4th place no way

    13. Jan, 2012

in my view remy and that gu from rangers are not is what required, we need better and although its hard – life and business has never and will never be easy, but id tell the club so what -just get it done and get on there and attack the players we want and make it happen.

We should have had a deal in place way before the window opened, we knew suarez was out weeks ago, why havent we or should have been in talks with a number of leading frontmen so when the window ioened we arent scratching our arses waiting for a qulaity player to come here????

remember everyone can talk to other clubs and start setting the tone way before the window opens, anyone that soesnt know about all the tapping up and talking that goes on before hand etc – is living id a dream world,,,,

this window smacks of mis management and a load of old lazy attitude and sticking with what we have crap…

im well unhappy with the club at the minute…

Sam just because nothing has been completed doesn’t mean negotiations haven’t happened! The club keep everything STRICTLY behind closed doors these days we wont know anything till its done!

  10. Upper_Krust

    13. Jan, 2012

I think what Sam’s getting at is we have about 5-6 more games in January that will define our season and we are struggling for goals NOW.

If those games go badly then it’ll be too late for someone to come in on January 31st and make a difference this season.

  11. sam charles - liverpool and transfers dont go!

    13. Jan, 2012

great comment by upper crust,,, the whole lack off or a deal not in place or even a player that is new not being in through the door is just staggering – do we really think we are that good that a striker would not have been signed by now?

i cant even begin to tell you all how bad this is?

and people say we have carroll, kuyt maxi bellamy etc.

well kenny doesnt seem to fancy maxi, he plays that downing all the time, carroll looks average at best, kuyt is not playing that much and even he is bang out of shape and form suarez cant play???? shall i go on…..

bellamy cant play more than 2 games over the space of 5 – 6 days!!!! and the club think we are ok….. what a disgrace, thought we would have had owners and the whole club thinking – we need to keep pushing on! how many more years can we be out of the top 4 – none is the reply?

disgusting that we cant even go and attack a week blackburn and really should have gone and just got hoilett in even if we over paid by 2 -3 mill sorry you have to do that at some stage in life and business????

we cant even get it togther to go and get a player form blackburn!!! dear god, and no one tell me that the player does not want to move to liverpool – thats crap that.

so we cant even go after a deal that for around 8- 10 mill would have given us more pace and more graft and more legs for games that are coming up….

what a mess we are in the markets, downing, adam carroll are all average players and will never be a top bracket team with those, we need MORE QUALITY AND THAT IS CLEAR,

when are ever just going to just push on?

  12. AndyCarrollHater

    13. Jan, 2012

Carroll is still the worst striker scratch that the worst player I’ve ever seen in my life and having Remy join LFC would be a breath of fresh air. He got pace, skill and can score goals unlike we know who yep big lazy AC. Plus he would give Glen some company as he is a lone wolf black player at LFC at the moment.

  13. anfield rd dreamer

    13. Jan, 2012

By the way peeps there’s a site called transfermarkt useful for neutral view on player stats an that, they have a ‘golden shoe’ which takes into account how difficult leagues are to score in and how many goals a player scores per appearance as opposed to just how many goals, on there Remy scores a very respectable 69th place (it is EVERY player on the planet after all) but saying that it means there are 68 other players considered more prolific and many an awful lot cheaper than 15 million some of which would be available. Oh for those wondering Jelavic is 43rd. One player I was wondering bout what do people think bout Fletcher at Wolves? I know he looks 48 but is only 24, 8 goals in 15 and rabid Liverpool fan apparently, to be honest would much prefer him to Jelavic or Remy!

    • Sam

I wish these “fans” who are constantly saying how shite Carroll is would shut up. Did you see his strike against Oldham… what that shite?

He’s young and he’s having to play a completely different style of football to that he was playing previously at Newcastle.

Since he’s started to get the decent balls in from Gerrard n Bellamy you can see his potential. Yeah he looks a bit slow and his first touch is off but give the lad a break and let him get some confidence back in his game. You call yourself fans and all you do is jump on the “We hate Carroll” media circus.

Have some faith in the manager and the players he picks because he knows a hell of a lot more about football that you ever will.

  16. Dave McQueen

    14. Jan, 2012

Truered – don’t think that is accurate. Most of these players were born in France, Evra included. Clearly French. In addition, if they have been there since childhood, and now gained French citizenship – ie vierra desailly – they are French nationals. It’s like claiming lawrenson isn’t English cos his parent were Irish. Clearly is English!

  17. anfield rd dreamer

    14. Jan, 2012

Dave Evra was born in Senegal of Senegal descent and raised in the Senegal culture that’s why they really don’t like him there for choosing to be French for footballing ambitions. Same as us with Victor Moses and Frimpong being eligible for England despite being born in another country. Don’t know why people are having a go at Truered for pointing out most of the French squad were not actually born in France as its true.

  18. Sam

    14. Jan, 2012

Anyone who has studied international politics know how French colonialism works. They used integration. They chose to make all colonial citizens French citizens in the hope that it would make them more loyal to France.

But seriously, bitching about black French players is like bitching about black English players. None of them truly came here previously to colonialism.

    14. Jan, 2012

I share the same sentiments that most of you guys have in us being inactive till Jan 31st. But whats more worrying is Kenny’s comment on the official website. Apparently we have a very good squad as it is and he doesn’t feel the need to go out and buy this month while admitting we have the funds to do it if the need arises. That sounds a little worrying consdering Suarez is out for a month and Lucas is out fo the season. If we were planning on buying a qualtiy player who can slot directly into the starting 11, Kenny would have most probably used the “we do our business behind closed doors” bit. But for him to say we wont be very active in this transfer window despite the clear inadequacies in our team is very worrying to say the least.

cheers for the back up anfield rd dreamer….sam the fact is although french through right of colonialism that still backs up what i was trying to point out and no its not the same as black english players as most are born and raised in england and our system is not that of the french

    • MK

      14. Jan, 2012

Those not born in France are exceptions (Vieira, Evra, Desailly,..) otherwise they are ALL born and raised in France and are French. They are black and so what ?? Why would it bother you ? What was the point of your first comment, I don’t even get it.

It’s exactly the same thing as blaming the USA basketball team or something. Pure nonsense !

  21. anfield rd dreamer

    14. Jan, 2012

Matt he is hardly gunna slate his players in public by saying he doesn’t think the current squad is good enough is he? What would that do for morale? He said there was likely going to be little, as most fans want 1, 2 or at most 3 players then that comes under ‘a little’ transfer activity! You’re right it is all behind closed doors which is why he didn’t give numbers, positions or say if any negotiations were close.

  22. sam charles - hate the transfer window with liverpool

    14. Jan, 2012

invest- chelsea have just signed or about to sign cahill! now cahill might not be world class but tell you what they have a weakness and they go out and try and fix it! liverpool have a huge weakness up top and what do we do, at this moment – NOTHING .

thats just a joke for me and yet you would think every chance the club has to grab any advantage – that fsg and the club would try and get some business done?

lets all face facts as well and liked the new owners are, they havent really paid out that much if you think about it.

suarez and carroll where paid for by player sales.
the summer was done with an outlay of around 38 – 40 mill, bar in mind that we recouped and or saved around 25 mill from the wage bill and player sales.

lets be clear of you want to win and when your team is not in the top 4 and you need that champions league to fair, then you have to then make sure you get it!!!!

sorry but we are missing the boat here, if we cant get a young, tricky and pacey hoilett form blackburn when he has only 6 months left and the mess that club is in, then we have major problems – and no one tell me that hoilett doesnt want to be at liverpool – rubbish.

liverpool are not that great in the markets are they, having wasted best part of 55 mill on crap players like carroll and downing…..

  23. anfield rd dreamer

    14. Jan, 2012

Sam the Cahill deal was agreed before window opened and still isn’t complete if that was a Liverpool transfer it wouldn’t even be getting talked about till now. Kind of proves my point of how do you know we’ve been inactive?

  24. SAM CHARLES - CROUCH IS BETTER THEN CARROLL

    14. Jan, 2012

Sam the Cahill deal was agreed before window opened – thats my very point!!!!!

We all know as all clubs, agents, players and board members and all owners do that you can start light talsk and start digging around way before the market opens, it does go on, tapping up they call it! if anyone thinks this doesnt go on then they are living in a dream world.

lfc have always been slow and lets face we do blow massive amount of money on average players.

its time for no rubbish just get on and buy better quality and its clear as day.

cahill to cheslea just shows you that you can and start to talk to clubs early not just when the window opens!!! do you really think that the window is that bad a time to add? no way is the reply, clubs abd agents soend all year trying to get more for their players and etc.

liverpool are mostly shite in most markets.

we need more quality and i stand by that, i just want proven better players at teh club, at the moment would i have darren bent over carroll – yes
would i have even defoe over carroll – yes, would i have sinclair over downing – yes, would i have hoilett over downing – yes.

would i have banega over adam – yes even though he is not proven in thsi country he is a cracking player and doing well in spain.

would i have remy over carroll – yes but even he is not good enough, and so on.

we also need midfield – comolli has done fuck all to bring us m’villa or mouss sissoko- why not they are currently better in that role than what we have.

crap market and im pissed of with the club,

TELL YOU WHAT ID RATHER CROUCH THEN CARROLL ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

    @Anfield Road Dreamer

The Golden Shoe on the Transfer Market website is very interesting. Thanks for mentioning it.

I actually suggested Artjoms Rudnevs as a back-up striker last month, he is #10 on their European rankings right now, one place behind Podolski and four behind Demba Ba.

Rudnevs is valued at £2.9 Million. Seems worth the risk.

Interestingly, Eden Hazard is #66, while Gareth Bale is #67. Given that the table favouritises Strikers thats pretty good going.

i can not see KD/Comolli making one quality signing, that will go straight into the starting 11, who will cost 15m+.

if i was KD, i wud try n sign the following players…..

    Hoillet..6/7m
    sinclair..6/7m
De Rossi..5m, massive signing on fee, wages of 100K
Drenthe.. on loan from Ream Madrid, who at the moment is on loan to the blue noses
torres..25m sign him or if chelsea sign a couple of strikers this month, try n get torres on loan…very long shot, worth a try
    raul on a 6month deal..

Upper Krust yeah noticed him your right if we are on a budget he could be a great cheap acquisition. My favourite option Huntelaar is 5th only Gomez, Van Persie, Messi an Ronaldo higher. To think Huntelaar is at the German equivalent of a villa or Newcastle I don’t see any reason not to try an bring him in on a 4 or 5 year deal. By then some of our academy lads should be breaking into main team starting places.
