Kuyt Offered Galatasaray Lifeline

Posted on 04. Jan, 2012 by in Rumours

Dirk Kuyt has reportedly been offered a lifeline by Turkish side Galatasaray, after seeing his Euro 2012 hopes fade under Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool. A bid of around £10 million is thought be enough to prize the versatile forward from the Reds, who may well be willing to cash-in before the Dutchman’s contract runs out in 2013.

Suggestions had been made that the hardworking ex-Feyenoord man would consider his position at the club at the end of the season, but with Liverpool struggling for goals, it would be far from surprising if they decided to make room in their squad for a more prolific player.

Regardless of his potential worth to other teams, offloading a player who has seen his best years, and at such a reasonable price (the same one he was brought in for at his peak by Rafael Benitez in 2006) is an undeniably attractive financial option – one that may not present itself so generously come the next transfer window.

Kuyt has been a mainstay in Liverpool and Holland squads for several years now, and is considered a Kop favourite by many, but has struggled for form this season. At Anfield he has found himself most frequently occupying a position on the bench rather than the right-wing, severely reducing his chances of making the Holland team in Poland and Ukraine this summer.

The Liverpool bench-warmer had been the subject of interest from Inter Milan at the beginning of Roy Hodgson’s ill-fated spell in charge, but opted to stay on Merseyside. As ineffective as any player during the now West Brom manager’s time, Kuyt enjoyed a notable rejuvenation along with the rest of the squad under Dalglish in the second half of the 2010/11 season. With Jordan Henderson often preferred in the starting line up this year however, he has found first team chances limited, scoring just one goal.

Galatasaray’s interest may well have come at an ideal time for both Kuyt and Liverpool; at 31, he, and the club, will be hard pressed to find a better offer in the closing years of his career.

Ship him out. We should snap their hands off for £10 million. I’d be happy with half that…and I suspect so would the club.

Much as I love Dirk Kuyt (he’ll always be remembered for THAT hat-trick) he’s really faded badly this season. He was always a work horse and poacher, but he seems a yard slower, his touch is all over the shop (not that his touch was ever great to begin with) and really theres no way he can be considered a first team choice anymore.

Best wishes to the guy if he does go. YNWA Diggler!

We’d be stupid not to sell for $10mil. He’s not playing much and when he does he’s not contributing much.

Rafa ruined him. Took all the goal scoring and attacking instinct out of him and turned him into a workhorse. Nevertheless Dirk was always the absolute professional.

Never had a good first touch?! Kuyts first touch is excellent. He’s been played out of position again – where did KK play him last season when he produced?! But then this season he has pushed him back. 10 million for a 31 yr old is gd value, but I’ll believe the figure when i
    See it

He’s been a great servant for us but £10m would make great sense both for us and Dirk.

Will be sad to see him go because I love his work rate, but would probably be the best for him and the club. YNWA Dirk

Don’t think you can blame Kenny for ruining Kuyt’s Euro 2012 hopes as Kuyt has spent about as much time on the pitch as any of our attackers except Suarez think his form and the quality of Hollands ‘next generation’ is more the threat. However if we strengthen over next few Windows Kuyt will slide further an further down pecking order and if he can be an important player at another club especially a big one like Gala and if he WANTS to then he should be allowed to leave on good terms, he has earnt that right.

To be honest it’s the right timing for Kuyt to go. He hasn’t looked himself recently, his effort has took a knock. What a great servant to our club he has been tho. Kuyt will be regarded as a LFC legend & an adopted scouser! If rumor is to be true then I wish him all the best, he has a lot of playing in him yet at other leagues.

if any club offered offered 5m+ for kuyt, i say sell him.

i wud try n do a swap deal including kuyt, plus cash for ie erickson, luuk de jong, if kuyt wants to return home to holland.

or if kuyt wants to stay in the England, try n swap him for hoilett, include him in the bent deal plus cash.

thxs for always giving 200% kuyt, all the best, when u move on.

An fascinating dialogue is price comment. I think that you need to write extra on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but usually persons are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
