Happy Birthday Shanks

Posted on 02. Sep, 2010 by in News

On the 2nd September 1913, a legend was born. From 1959-1974 Bill Shankly transformed a Liverpool Football Club that were in demise into a team that would be remembered for decades to come.

He won the second division in 1962, and that was the beginning of a special era at Anfield.

Shankly honours:

First Division Champions

1964
1966
1973

Second Division Champions

1962

FA Cup Winners

1965
1974

UEFA Cup

1973

Charity Shield

1964 (shared)
1965 (shared)
1966
1974

Here is a list of my personal favourite Shankly quotes:

“Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.”

“If you are first you are first, if you are second you are nothing.”

“I know this is a sad occasion, but I think that Dixie would be amazed to know that even in death he could draw a bigger crowd to Goodison than Everton on a Saturday afternoon.” – Speaking at the funeral of Dixie Dean

“In my time at Anfield we always said we had the best two teams on Merseyside – Liverpool and Liverpool reserves.”

Bill Shankly, may you rest in peace. You’ll Never Walk Alone.
