From Rafa’s Rant to Dalglish’s Declamation

From Rafa’s Rant to Dalglish’s Declamation

Posted on 22. Jan, 2012 by in Blog

Three years on from Rafa’s facts and on the back of another frustrating showing against Bolton by a lackluster Liverpool side labeled the “the worst performance since I came back”, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has been quick to lay down the law on his underachieving players.

Speaking after the match Dalglish delivered a stern warning to his players, explaining in no uncertain terms – “If that’s the level they expect this football club to play at, they won’t be here long”.

Dalglish appeared visibly frustrated by the performance of his players, and what angered him the most was the clear lack of motivation and desire the players expressed on the pitch. He stated: “If they think they can just turn up and get a result and not be competitive and not match the opposition for effort, then they have had a lesson today,”, and went on to add “The foundations the football club have always been built on is respect for other people, it is built on the philosophy that the next game is the most important one, not the one that is two or three down the line.”

One aspect Dalglish has been keen to install since taking over the helm 12 months ago is a philosophy of togetherness, with the team working hard for each other and earning the respect of their opponents rather than merely expecting it. Something that was sadly missing against the struggling Lancashire side on Saturday evening.

The modern day Premier League is an extremely competitive league where each game must be treated with the same level of intensity and desire. If several players are just a few percent off their full level of intensity their opponents will inevitably capitalize in the manner Bolton did.

With the transfer window still open and Liverpool keeping their cards close to their chest the warning from Dalglish is sure to be ringing in the ears of several of the players. If it wasn’t clear before now, the players now know exactly where they stand – shape up or ship out.

Nice to see king kenny lay down the law, but it is blatantly obvious some players that have been bought in the last twelve month are not Liverpool fc quality. That needs to be addressed ASAP!!!

gerrard is old news and it looks like suarez is the spark plug of this team, adam is a waist of money and must go he cost this team many of games, as for suarez the brits should just be happy to have one of the best forwards in the world…

Spot on article! Over next two years can see first 11 evolving to:
    Reina
    Kelly, Skrtel (?), Agger, Enrique
    ?, Gerrard, Lucas, ?
    Suarez, ?
    Second 11:
    Doni
    Johnson, Carra, Coates, ?
    ?, Henderson, Adam, Downing
    Bellamy (?), Carroll
Once we can start attracting world class players again need to get two first choice wingers but need somebody for right wing soon as possible to get us there. Need a top class marksman who can be our top guy for Suarez to feed with Carroll as new guys back up. If get chance would look to replace Skrtel but not essential like wings an up front. Bellamy will need replacing some point got maximum two years left at this level. Kuyt, Maxi, Aurelio, Jones, Darby, Ecclestone, Aqualani and Cole all need to go within this window or next. Gulacsi, Hansen, Wisdom, Wilson, Sama, Flanagan, Robinson, Coady, Spearing, Shelvey, Suso, Silva, Sterling, Jao Teixeira, Morgan an David Texeira can be our emergency squad players.

No team can win anything without commitment. At Bolton, as KD rightly puts it, the lads showed up and expected the home side to roll over. When the Trotters went out guns blazing, the Red reaction was ‘I cant be arsed’ I don’t think we won a single 50-50 ball and the reason was clear, any card or injury now, and you might miss the Manchester games or even a trip to Wembley. I hope KD is as ruthless now as he was in the 80s.
Our reserve team is far more pacey and technically sound than the yobs we put out at Bolton. I’d rather pay to see them and the rubbish we played at the Reebok.

thats all well and nice that kenny says players won’t be here long if they keep performing the way they are, but can we actually believe that?

do you really think the owners are going to let comolli/kenny spend 35m on carroll, 20m on downing, 20m on henderson, etc. and then take massive losses selling those players the next summer after its determined they don’t fit our team? i don’t think so. i can see smaller dollar transfers getting axed after one season if they don’t work out (ie. adam for 6m) because we wouldn’t be looking at much of a loss if we were to sell him, but we would take massive losses on carroll and downing if we were to sell them this summer.

kenny better find a way to motivate those players or he’s the one that will be out…kenny needs to determine what formation we are going to play and how we are going to play (ie. 4-3-3 pass and move) and then comolli/kenny need to buy players who fit that system (ie. not carroll, downing).

  7. sam charles - hellp fsg? what are you doing?

    22. Jan, 2012

Kenny was right to have a go at over paid , over hyped pre madonna sports people who earn a huge living!!!!

Fans travel through thick and thin, other people go to work to earn not even close to what these pampered p***** do!.

1, i find it disgusting that we have some of our best players out like Lucus, Suarez. and yet we are not or have yet not acted in this transfer market ?.

2, that results have been not great at a time of year when we need to kick on to get that top 4, and yet we havent heard a thing form our so called great new owners?

3, its clear we are arrogant at the club in the way we think we have enough and the owners are clearly thinking we have done enough, rubbish they have only just started and if they where serious about liverpool they would have gone out and if they had to paid the money for 2 better quality players that we badly need?

4, where is the clubs ambition to really dig in and push on?

5, they knew the suarez ban and when it happened what time they had to get another player in to help, seeing as they can see that carroll is just dogshite.

what is is about this great club shooting itself in the foot! – when are we going to have owners who want to win and win bad, – stop all this crap about jan window being tuff to buy, – crap total crap, there are many players that we should be going after, and for us to be adding – if at all – at the tail end of the window is just showing the fans they are either over arrogant and thihnk we are going well or they have no money?

    fsg?

    Targets for window?
    Definites for me;
Krasic; 6 month loan in built option to buy in summer.
Top striker who can be our top guy for next few seasons, no idea how much we have so:
    Low cost; Fletcher or Jelavic.
Mid cost; Van Wolfswinkel or Defoe.
    Reasonable cost; Huntelaar.
    Big cost; Llorente or Bent.
    Possibles for me:
    Granero; perm deal around 8m.
De Jong; 6 month loan till Lucas back
2nd striker from list above if can.
My plan with reasonable 20-30 budget:
Krasic (loan), De Jong (loan), Granero (8m) and Huntelaar (18m?).

    compare rafa 11:

    Reina(6) – Arbeloa(2.5) – Agger(5.8) – Carragher(HG) – Aurelio(0) -

    Xabi(10,5) – Masch(17) – Gerrard(HG) – Kuyt(9) – Riera(8) -

    Torres(20) -

    Diego(3) – Skrtel(6.5) – Lucas(6) – Benayoun(6) – Babel(11.5) – Hypia (Gerrard Houllier) – Ngog (1.5)

    Total : 112.3 ( in 5 years – 2008/2009 – ) Net Spend : 82.73

    Kenny 11 :

    Reina(Rafa Benitez) – Johnson(Rafa Benitez) – Agger(Rafa Benitez) – Skrtel(Rafa Benitez) – Enrique(5.5) -

    Gerrard(HG) – Adam(8) – Lucas(Rafa Benitez) – Downing(20) -

    Carroll(35) – Suarez(22.8) -

    Doni(0) – Carragher(HG) – Kelly(HG) – Spearing(HG) – Henderson(20) – Maxi(Rafa Benitez) – Kuyt(Rafa Benitez) – Bellamy(0) –

Total: 103.3 in 1 year time.

If Kenny step up his position as manager we should bring back rafa, im sure he will do the job now with fenway sport group backing him.

my bad replace 103.3 by 111.6

  11. KEVIN

    23. Jan, 2012

your bad how come you left out the net spend for kenny, conveniently? Torres sold for 50m, Babel 6m, meireles 12m, konchesky 1.5m, Ngog 4m, poulsen 1m, mavinga 1m + a few smaller ones, that leaves net spend of about 36m

Also notice Vakpa leaves out some of Rafa’s most expensive players such as Aquilani (18m), Johnson (18m), Dossena (7m) and Keane (20m) whilst making sure all Kenny’s big signings are listed, and also goes through picking the 11 best players for each position from a 6 year period whilst Kenny has been in charge for two halves of a season so far. Also Rafa inherited a top 4 side able to attract cream of the crop players Kenny inherited a 7th place side that was sitting in 13th place.
    Alternative Rafa 11:
    Reina 6m
    J’son18, Agger6, Skrtel6, Dossena7
    Masch17, Aquilani18, Alonso10
    Babel12, Torres24, Keane20
    Total;144m
    Alternative Kenny 11
    Doni 0
    Kelly0, Carra 0, Coates7, Enrique6
    Gerrard0, Adam6, Spearing0
    Bellamy0, Carroll35, Suarez24
    Total; 78m
see how you can change the facts to say what you want just like Vakpa does?

“We’re signing too many kids” “why haven’t we signed Hazard/Lucas Moura/didn’t sign Oxlaide-Chamberlain” “stop signing British players” “sign Adam Johnson” “racist club never signs any black players” “why are we looking at the likes of Bent, Walcott, Huddlestone, Sow, Remy, Clichy? They’re rubbish!” “need to play Maxi every game instead of Downing” “where was Maxi he was rubbish? If Kenny thinks Downing was better than he thought why didn’t he play him against Bolton would of done better than Maxi” “Carroll is rubbish need to play Kuyt instead” “Kuyt was awful against Stoke why didn’t he stick with Carroll?” Could go on, Strebby I most definitely agree!

    23. Jan, 2012

what i tried to say is kenny spent 111.6 millions in 1 year and rafa 112.3 in 5 years. with the money kenny can spend rafa will do the job better.

  15. Livapudlian

    23. Jan, 2012

I still strongly blame kenny dalglish for all of these. Why should u actively believe in british players? And then allowing them so loose and going to clubs here and there. Imagine how much we spent on caroll and yet we can’t get anything from, then there is this news of kenny going to sign bent, defoe, where do u think this will lead us to?

  16. anfield rd dreamer

    23. Jan, 2012

Livapudlian its called the homegrown rule that was introduced saying you had to have 8 senior homegrown players minimum (likely to rise in future) and how many do we currently have? 8!

    Vakpa what?!? Rafa:
    1st year 39.8m gross 25.3m net
    2nd 35.1m gross 25.6m net
    3rd 28m gross 15.6m net
    4th 69.8m gross 39.9m net
    5th 39m gross 6.3m net
    6th 36m gross -8.7m net
    Total 247.7m gross 104m net
    Kenny:
    Winter 58m gross 2.2m net
    Summer 56.3m gross 35.3m net
    Total 114.3m gross 37.5m net
Also Kenny saved 20m on wage bill to help fund that whilst Rafa increased the wage bill to the point only Chelsea an United had a bigger bill over the 6 year period. Also Rafa inherited a top four team Kenny inherited a 13th place team!
