The Citizen View: Liverpool v Manchester City

The Citizen View: Liverpool v Manchester City

Posted on 23. Jan, 2012 by in Match Reports

Moving on from last week’s debacle at the Reebok, it’s time to look onwards and upwards and focus on our upcoming League Cup Semi-final 2nd Leg clash with the blue half of Manchester. Kevin Parker, General Secretary of the Official Manchester City Supporters Club (http://www.mcfcsc.com/) has taken time out from his duties to answer a few of our questions.

Firstly, a little about yourself, how long have you supported City?

I have supported City since 1973 and got my season ticket then, so 38 years in all. Most with tears and disappointment but recently of course things have come good.

Liverpool have a slender one goal advantage going in to the second leg, how do you see the tie panning out in the end?

The first goal will be critical and if City can score first then we will be right back in the game. I think City will just have to defend well and hope to get a goal in front. Once that happens and things get level then I think as the home team the pressure will be on Liverpool.

With Cardiff and Crystal Palace locking horns in the other semi-final, who do you see booking their place at Wembley?

A difficult one this, as Crystal Palace already has a goal lead so Cardiff know they must score. I can probably see this one just being edged by Crystal Palace, after winning at The Swamp earlier in the Cup they won’t be too worried about facing Cardiff.

With a draw and a defeat since their win at the Etihad, its fair to say Liverpool have been stuttering. What have you made of their performances?

A little surprising to be honest. In the first half at City they looked like a well organised team but maybe the League Cup semi and the FA Cup game versus Trafford Rangers has distracted them a little.

Which Liverpool player do you fear playing the most and who are you most looking forward to see?

Obviously Gerrard is the hub of everything good for Liverpool and having had a few more games his fitness levels will be better. We also have to be wary of the threat of Craig Bellamy as former players have a habit of coming back to punish us. I also like Charlie Adam, who given room can punish any team with his passing.

Mario Balotelli appeared to stamp out at Scott Parker during the Spurs game, what was your view of the incident? Does he tend to split opinion amongst fans?

Storm in a teacup, the City fans are right behind Mario 100%

Would you rather Man City won the Premier League or Man Utd got relegated?

City to win the league.

Who do you think will finish in the top 4 this season?

City, Trafford, Spurs and Chelsea

Who do you see going down?

Wigan, Bolton and Wolves

What is your favourite memory involving our two clubs?

I suppose it was seeing City win at Anfield a few seasons back when Anelka scored the winner in the last minute. City wins at Anfield don’t happen very often and it was also my son Liam’s first visit to Anfield so a special day all round.

What is a little known fact about Man City that Liverpool fans should know?

Manchester City once scored more than 100 league goals in one season in the old Division 1 but were still relegated.

So there we have it. Like most people Kevin is swaying towards a tight game that could go either way. As Rafa Benitez used to say – it’ll be the small details that could decide this game.

    Balotelli wouldn’t have played anyway.

I think Mancini will rest Hart, Richards, Silva, Nasri, Balotelli.

A much bigger game for LFC than it is for MCFC, sadly.

We’re getting giddy, they’re not even bothered.

why wouldnt man city be bothered about this game?
there trophy cabinet is empty he said it him self they are out to fill it and win everything the game offers! they are a club with money and now winning history they need it more than us lol

my prediction sadly is 2-0 city….id love us to go out and win but our home record is nothing to be jolly about atm and they have 2 teams of class….but i hope im wrong

Kopsince has been saying a lot of ‘anti-liverpool’ things doubt his name to be honest. Simple fact is no trophies for years for us and no way there is no credit in winning any trophy let alone one we’d of beaten Chelsea an City in their own back yards to get to this stage, simple fact is City played strongest squad available to them last game an Mancini has said they want it why are people making up rubbish? Heart says impressive win by solid defence combined with counter attacking football, head says hard fought nerve wracking draw to scrape through. Gunna be in kop for this one so think will be kind of night I’ll age 10 years an leave a nervous wreck. Just hope the fans see a draw as a good result because it would be but sure the internet warriors will be disappointed and keep ridiculously calling for Kenny’s head.

Liverpool have been disappointing in the league, but this is our solace at the moment. I’m going for a 2-1 win on the night for our guys. Regardless of it being a ‘Micky mouse’ cup, I’m stoked at the thought of us in the final.

    C’MON LFC!

Well we shit outta luck now but when u hit rock bottom the only way from there is up so i hope and pray it won’t be disappointing but somehow there ain’t enough quality to pull thru so a draw w’d be awesome. Doubt it tho, pls KK buy some players and use some common sense and drop Carroll completey cause he’s better of drinking rum or so.

If there’s one thing we are good at is grinding out a result. Were a big game club who know how to manage the added pressure so I see either 0-0 it we may nick it 1 nil

I have taken note that of all types of insurance, medical care insurance is the most dubious because of the conflict between the insurance cover company’s need to remain afloat and the user’s need to have insurance policies. Insurance companies’ income on health and fitness plans are low, therefore some organizations struggle to profit. Thanks for the ideas you share through this website.
