Carroll Pleased With Progress

Posted on 21. Feb, 2012 by in News

Andy Carroll believes he is beginning to show signs of the sort of form that earned him a £35m move to Merseyside, after notching up another goal in the 6-1 hammering of Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

The former Newcastle number 9 had a slow start to life at Liverpool, dogged by injury problems and held back by an inability to slot into the existing set-up, he was unable to perform to the best of his ability.

Now, though, following a run of games in the absence of and now alongside Luis Suarez, Carroll has re-found his form and hopes to be able to carry it over to the Carling Cup final on Sunday.

“I feel like I am doing well and have just started to get going,” Carroll said.

“I am scoring goals and I feel like I am doing well in games now. It’s all starting to come together for me.

“This is the best I’ve felt since I have been here, without a doubt. I feel fit and confident and I think it is showing in my performances.

“I’m getting around the pitch more and getting involved. I think it shows that I am happier and more confident.

“It’s a massive game on Sunday and all the lads are looking forward to it.

“We have got such a good squad, anyone could come in and play. You have just got to work hard in training and the manager will pick the team.

“I’ve never been to a cup final before so it’s a great feeling to get there and I’m just hoping we can win it now. We have been playing well the last couple of weeks and starting to put the performances in.”

Carroll played a part in Martin Skrtel’s opener against Brighton, before netting himself after latching onto a superb cutback from Stewart Downing.

He also set up Suarez in the dying embers of the match, much to the Uruguayan’s relief after he had missed a penalty earlier on. Carroll is pleased to have shared the goals around, and credited his team mates for crafting the chances for himself and Suarez to finish.

“It was great that we both scored,” he said. “For me it was nice to get one in front of the Kop. It was a great ball from Stewie. He picked me out and all I had to do was put it in the back of the net.

“At the end I just thought it was important to set Luis up. It was a great ball by Jose (Enrique) and Luis was probably in a better place than me. He was there and he just nodded it home.

“I thought the whole team played well, we gelled together and passed it well. We got the goals that we have been lacking.”

He should be too, really glad that he is getting his confidence back. He has played really well recently: working hard, unselfish play, decent movement in the box.

I think since the fa cup match win over utd carroll is showing signs of why liverpool signed him he seems to be more involved in the game breaking the ball down well and tormenting defenders in the box from set pieces he does look alot fitter and I think we are going to see alot more of andy and maybe he can drive us into forth place YNWA.

Was really happy to see Andy doing so well during the entire match and a terrific assist for Luis. Can’t wait to see it for the rest of the season. YNWA

I predicted A 3-1 Win For Liverpool Against Brighton And Not Counting The Own Goals I Would Have Been Spot On . Still We Have A One Shot One Goal Goalkeeper . We Need A Joe Hart To Win The Leauge . I Never Rated Pepe Riena And Never Will . I Hope He Dont Blunder Against Cardiff . We Have The Second Best Team In The Country And With A Better Keeper We Be Number One .

Edgar what side have you been watching this season?
On our day we are as good as anyone in the league and we have proved that but our current squad is not capable of a top fours finish, City, Utd, Spurs, Chelsea and maybe even Arsenal have better squads than us right now!
Also Joe Hart is in my opinion the only keeper in the premier league that you could honestly say is a better all round keeper tha Pepe!

carroll is starting to show why we paid so much for him defenders are scared stiff of the guy when he plays well and if he keeps improving his form further we have a real chance of fourth and a cup double.

Plus i wouldnt swap reina for any goalie in the world what a load of rubish Edgar a 1 shot 1 goal keeper really look at the mans record best goalkeeper in the league if not the world.

Also we have as much a chance of fourth as arsenal or chelsea wouldnt say they had a better squad than us maybe just a more settled / more used to the system there manager plays, we bought 8 new players last summer, it takes time to intergrate that many players into a new system.

Ha Ha Ha… Carroll scored against Brighton and all of a sudden he is Lionel Messi??? One performance against a lesser team proves nothing idiots.
I ain’t saying he’s not trying harder than earlier in the season but he still lacks quality and to be at the top that’s what we’ll need. I hope and pray that he will start to put in performances that will take the team where we want to be but it ain’t gonna happen as he can be taken out of his game too easily simply because he lacks the quality and technique…

For Carrol to justify his move to LFC (forget the price tag), he’d still need to improve his ball control and his body balance for starters. No doubt he’s got a good footballing braint, but his agility or lack of it is still one area he’ll have to work upon if he’s to fulfill his true potential.

Having said that let’s just hope our scouts do a better job this summer and not go for potential alone. Some of the new signings might well become footballing heroes 5 years down the line (or probably never) but they aren’t too helpful in achieving the current season’s target. We tend to go for targets no top 4 teams will ever think twice about and to top it all, overpaid for them as well. Sometimes I wonder if DC stands for donkey collector or something like that.
